A carefully restored classic 505, ready to race and in excellent condition for her age. Built in 1987, she is a Parker 24 hull and has been upgraded to carry the bigger ‘monster’ kite.
The wooden foredeck and bulkhead were professionally epoxied and varnished by Paintcraft in 2015 and are in excellent condition. The internal woodwork (centreboard case, thwarts) were all professionally stripped back and varnished by Peak Dinghy in 2017 and are also in excellent condition.
The boat has a P&B carbon boom and twin carbon spinnaker poles with a ‘lazy guy’ system as found on more modern 505s. The mast is the original Proctor D mast. She has a gybing centreboard and lifting rudder. Many of the internal control line systems have been modernised to bring them closer to the modern standard, including the jib sheeting system which is a fully adjustable “all rope” system with in/out and up/down adjustment of the sheeting angle. Forestay, shroud and lazy guy systems have elastic take ups to keep the cockpit tidy, and the forestay and shrouds are continuous for easy adjustment on either tack. The vast majority of the internal fixtures and fittings have been replaced over the last few years, mostly with Allen fittings – everything works as it should.
Various sails included, the newest of which are in extremely good condition. The boat comes with a brand new P&B radial mainsail (full cut), bought in November 2024 and has only been out of the bag about 3 or 4 times since. This sail is essentially in “as new” condition, and can be seen in the pictures of the boat ashore. Additionally there are two older P&B mylar mainsails (one of which is pictured in the photos of the boat afloat) – these are older and a bit crinkly, but perfectly usable and have no significant damage other than wear and tear. The jib is a dacron P&B zip luff genoa, bought new in 2021 and has had only very occasional light use (inland club racing) since – still in great condition. There are three monster spinnakers (two P&B, one North) – all older but in useable condition. The North spinnaker is pictured and is the newest and best condition of the three.
The boat comes with a breathable P&B flat top cover (new 2024 and in excellent condition), an undercover (older, put perfectly useable – just a bit of wear here and there), and a combi launching trailer and road base. The road base had new hubs and bearings in 2024. Additionally, the boat comes with a catalogue of photos from throughout its life, including its restoration, and also a copy of the original measurement certificate.
A very reluctant sale due to combination of injury and difficulty finding a crew. The boat is ready to race, for example in the Classic fleet at the World Championships at Hayling Island in July.
Price reflects the excellent condition of the sails, as well as the standard of the boat, but any reasonable offers will be considered.
